Nonetheless, she shows a practicality and sensibility – combined with her quiet and reserved nature – that reminded me very much of Martha from A Lady Awakened.

But there is one more crisis to be faced when on the eve of the battle Elizabeth receives some information that could separate her and Jack forever. But, Jack did not tell the most shameful thing of all and although the reader has a hint and knows something else is hiding in the wings, the entire truth doesn’t come out until he and Elizabeth have been happily living together for three months.

It was unnecessary to the story and put a crimp in an otherwise lovely grovel. This intamous about betrayed, process to know each other and forgiven. Normally, a romance novel that includes such blatant faithlessness on the part of the husband would turn me inside out. Unfortunately, he now has to get back to his ball and chain. I truly enjoyed this novel and reading about the path Jack and Elizabeth travel to find one another.
