Have not done a thorough reading but coming after Lawrence Buell’s text, Environmental Imaginatuin, this one is more academic with heavy theoretical language and more focused on Canada.

The section on the “Ecological Indian” stereotype was especially eye-opening for me; I had not realized like many in our culture to what extent this notion is both historically inaccurate many Native Americans were just as exploitative of nature as Europeans settlers – there were just less of them, and didn’t have the technology to achieve their means as efficiently as well as offensive to some Native Americans since it reduces the many different groups into a rather monolithic view.
